There's no single percentage that means a 3 or a 4 on every AP exam, because each subject uses its own composite-to-score conversion. But the table below shows the composite percentage behind each score on every subject on this site - and the pattern is useful: on most exams, the mid-40s roughly earns a 3, the high 50s to mid 60s earns a 4, and a 5 lands somewhere in the 60s to mid 70s depending on how hard the exam is.

How the composite-to-score conversion works

Every AP score starts as raw section scores that get weighted into one composite percentage. On this site the formula is:

Composite % = (MCQ correct ÷ MCQ total × MCQ weight) + (FRQ points ÷ FRQ total × FRQ weight)

That composite maps to a final 1-5 through each subject's cutoff curve. The right-hand columns above answer a different question - of everyone who sat the exam, how many landed in each band - which is a measure of cohort performance, not of your personal chances.
